Caesar takes an opportunity to return Kore to Crassus in an attempt to appease him, and the 500 captured rebels which include a wounded Agron are returned to Spartacus. Despite some complications, the tactic works and the slaves storm and capture the city after a fierce night-time battle. Spartacus hosts gladiator games using Tiberius and a few captured Romans as the gladiators to honor Crixus. The suspicious leaders meet outside the city, but are observed by the impatient Tiberius, who decides to attack. Unfortunate events will test her loyalty to the House of Crassus.

The prequel series will feature six episodes which begin production next month and will debut on television in January 2011. It premiered on January 25, 2013 and concluded on April 12, 2013. Tullius again visits the ludus, still seeking Gannicus while offering preferential matches in the new arena. The mini-series features the bloody history of the House of Batiatus and the city of Capua before the arrival of Spartacus.
Meanwhile, Tiberius is tasked by Crassus to hold a celebration in honor of Caesar's victory of re-capturing the city where Caesar challenges one captured slave to a duel. He and the household are not, however, prepared for the sudden return of the lanista and , his father, Titus, who treats his son's caretaking skills with disdain. Meanwhile, Tiberius seems bitter and broken, having had to beat Sabinus to death in the decimation, lashing out at surviving true cowards. Batiatus puts all his fortunes on the man who will gain him fame and glory. In Rome, after hearing of this latest defeat, the Roman Senate fears Rome itself may be endangered but lacks funds and men to mount a suitably large army. From the opening moment to the final credits I could not gaze in another direction.
Meanwhile in Rome, Marcus Crassus completes preparing his legionary army just as Tiberius hopes his help will be rewarded with second rank, but fears being side-tracked in favor of the seasoned young Caius Julius Caesar. Heracleo offers an alliance and Spartacus agrees, mainly to buy urgently needed supplies. A Roman cavalryman kills Castus who dies without regret in Nasir and Agron's arms. In the arena, Barca's lover Auctus and newcomer Crixus, duel in the arena and the lesser experienced Crixus manages to kill him, thereby earning the mark of the brotherhood. . The sudden return of the Batiatus' father simply make matters worse yet again, particularly for Lucretia.
It ultimately leads to Tiberius being forced to participate in the execution of his best friend Sabinus. At home, the Roman women are also having difficulty accepting the father's ongoing - and seemingly permanent - presence. While the rebels are celebrating after capturing another town, Laeta and Spartacus discover their feelings for each other and have sex for the first time. Former champion, Oenomaus, reluctantly becomes Doctore, while Syrian recruits Ashur and Dagan try to prove themselves worthy of being gladiators. A better adrenaline rush could only be found by those living in such a world.
Tullius wishes to purchase Gannicus and when Batiatus refuses the offer, he is savagely beaten. A distressed Crassus sends Caesar to bargain with Spartacus to release Tiberius. To see his debts paid, Caesar controls his fury, being relegated to lower command, while Tiberius is reinstated as Crassus's right hand general. However, Gannicus is forced to hide behind enemy lines with Sibyl while waiting for a chance to get away. The pirate fleet's artillery however makes the difference.
In the final scene, Laeta, Sibyl and Nasir join Agron, one of the only remaining gladiators from the House of Batiatus and the only surviving rebel general , as the few dozen survivors of the defeated rebel army march on to start a new life. When Gaia meets an acquaintance at the market, she introduces him to Lucretia and he immediately comments on the pleasures available at her home. He is finally silenced by the honeyed-wine given to him by Tullius but poisoned by her - and, perhaps deliberately, so is Melitta. He also sees the spirit of Oenomaius, smiling as he awaits his friend to join him in the afterlife. Lucretia agrees to proceed, with Solonius as chaperone, and the night seems to go well, until the unexpected arrival of Tullius, who wishes to fight Gannicus - a duel the gladiator is ordered to lose. Laeta, who witnessed her husband Ennius murdered by Spartacus, continues to steal bread from the rebels' kitchens and give them to fellow Sinuessa citizens in hiding.
