Still, we can't blame Cassidy for breaking up with him. Like I said, it's heavy. People are complicated and messy -- good, bad, stupid, careless, all of the above. If I substitute the drinking in the book for smoking copious amounts of pot on a daily basis Sutter isn't all that different from quite a few friends and acquaintances of mine in my late high school and college years. You have to have some direction in which your life is going. He introduces her to alcohol, and the two go for a walk.
Unfortunately, the same goes for his alcoholic tendencies. Because he loves her so much, Sutter decides that the honorable thing to do is to get Aimee as far away from him as possible duh , so she can find someone who'll be able to give her the future she deserves. As soon as I read the first sentence of the book I should have just put the book down and walked away. I almost gave this book four stars, but I realized that was so stupid of me.

It's funny and philosophical and introspective and reminiscent. I loved Sutter, this broken, broken boy. At times this book just sort of dragged on and on. Nothing matters but the Spectacular Now. When his girlfriend Cassidy Roy decides he's a lost cause and breaks up with him, she starts seeing Marcus , the School President and an athletic star.
She tells him that she stood up to her mom and is going to Philadelphia, inviting him to live with her and attend a Junior College. I don't know if I hated this or I loathed it. He's the person who can get everyone laughing and forget about their problems. This book is very dear to my heart; like Neon Golden by Notwist is in this moment. Overall, I think this is a very powerful book and I think everyone should read it. The main character is simultaneously loveable and an ass.
As soon as I read the first sentence of the book I should have just put the book down and walked away. It's not like he's a mean drunk, at all. I think I can appreciate the world through their eyes a little bit more after reading. It would have been a 5stars book except for Aimee I couldn't figure her out and she was a bit too naive for my taste; all that planning scared me to be honest. I immediately started reading and was affected all over again in the best way. He always thinks everyone is going to leave him.
As the book moved on I wanted to see Sutter learn something, and everytime he seemed to learn a lesson he would in no time show the bit of learning he did to be an aberration that was quickly corrected by another reckless action. I guess that's ultimately the true message of the novel, hopeless as it is. The writing in this book is beautiful and filled with so many life lessons and little bits of wisdom. Wouldn't mind a book about Amy though, see how she's getting on with her new life. The party to him though is all of life. Aimee confesses she has never been drunk before, never had a boyfriend and doesn't think she can go to college because she has to take care of her irresponsible mother.
I admire people who are, but it just never was my thing. Aimee and Sutter are two lost kids, and while there are moments of honesty and beauty in their relationship, they cannot build anything solid when they are both dealing or not dealing with so many internal battles. It might be a while. I will not have sex with her in a bar. Written by I wanted to see this film to soothe my wife. I wanted to read this book before I went to go see the movie, but I only want to go see the movie so I can scope out the acting of the two main characters since they are both casted for Divergent.
